Doulas provide essential support not just to the dying, but to their loved ones. Shiva Circle is an opportunity for doulas to provide support in the days and weeks after a death. During this interactive workshop, you will:
- Deepen your knowledge of Jewish mourning customs
- Practice having conversations with families about sitting shiva
- Feel more confident providing support during shiva
- Explore the tools and resources Shiva Circle has developed to help create a world where no one has to grieve alone

Program Description:
Death midwives, End-of-Life Doulas, Death Coaches – what does it all mean?
Like in birth, doulas assist a dying person and their loved ones before, during, and after death with emotional, spiritual, and practical support. Join Zoe Goldblatt, Jewish End-of-Life Doula, in conversation with Rabbi Melanie Levav to discuss the value provided by end-of-life doulas.
We will explore real-life stories, highlighting the role of doulas and learning how they work with existing healthcare systems as well as Jewish communal supports. Whether you’re looking to become a doula, searching for a doula for yourself or a loved one, or are eager to better understand how you can work with doulas for your clients and community members, all are welcome!

Speakers:
Zoë Goldblatt, MFA, co-founded the East Bay End Of Life Doula Network in 2018 in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is a Doula as well as an Activity Therapist and coach for persons living with dementia, and their care partners. Zoë is a director and facilitator at the AriYael Jewish Healing Center in the SF Bay Area, along with her husband, Rabbi Dan Goldblatt. Zoë’s main areas of skill and interest are in creative aging, family caregiver support, Jewish spiritual care, grief and bereavement, and psychedelic harm reduction and integration support for end of life inquiry. Her academic background is in Cultural Anthropology, Literary Arts and Music.
